Build a Banner Kit

Independence Day is a national holiday marked by patriotic displays. Similar to other summer-themed events, Independence Day celebrations often take place outdoors. Independence Day is a federal holiday, so all non-essential federal institutions (like thepostal service and federal courts) are closed on that day. Many politicians make it a point on this day to appear at a public event to praise the nation’s heritage, laws, history, society, and people.

Opportunity to Alter the June Paper Pumpkin
Make a banner using the June Paper Pumpkin, Cherry Cobler Grosgrain Ribbon, Rossette Bigz Die, Star Framelits, new Masks , and Punches

Families often celebrate Independence Day by hosting or attending a picnic or barbecue and take advantage of the day off and, in some years, long weekend to gather with relatives. Decorations (e.g., streamers, balloons, and clothing) are generally colored red, white, and blue, the colors of the American flag. Parades are often in the morning, while fireworks displays occur in the evening at such places as parks, fairgrounds, or town squares.

The night before the Fourth was once the focal point of celebrations, marked by raucous gatherings often incorporating bonfires as their centerpiece. In New England, towns competed to build towering pyramids, assembled from hogsheads and barrels and casks. They were lit at nightfall, to usher in the celebration. The highest were in Salem, Massachusetts (on Gallows Hill, the famous site of the execution of 13 women and 6 men for witchcraft in 1692 during the Salem witch trials, where the tradition of bonfires in celebration had persisted), composed of as many as forty tiers of barrels; these are the tallest bonfires ever recorded. The custom flourished in the 19th and 20th centuries, and is still practiced in some New England towns.

Independence Day fireworks are often accompanied by patriotic songs such as the national anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner”, “God Bless America”, “America the Beautiful”, “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee”, “This Land Is Your Land”, “Stars and Stripes Forever”, and, regionally, “Yankee Doodle” in northeastern states and “Dixie” in southern states. Some of the lyrics recall images of the Revolutionary War or the War of 1812.

Firework shows are held in many states, and many fireworks are sold for personal use or as an alternative to a public show. Safety concerns have led some states to ban fireworks or limit the sizes and types allowed. Illicit traffic transfers many fireworks from less restrictive states.

A salute of one gun for each state in the United States, called a “salute to the union,” is fired on Independence Day at noon by any capable military base.[19]

In 2009, New York City had the largest fireworks display in the country, with over 22 tons of pyrotechnics exploded.[20] Other major displays are in Chicago on Lake Michigan; in San Diego over Mission Bay; in Boston on the Charles River; in St. Louis on the Mississippi River; in San Francisco over the San Francisco Bay; and on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.. During the annual Windsor-Detroit International Freedom Festival, Detroit, Michigan hosts one of the world’s largest fireworks displays, over the Detroit River, to celebrate Independence Day in conjunction with Windsor, Ontario’s celebration of Canada Day.

While the official observance always falls on July 4th, participation levels may vary according to which day of the week the 4th falls on. If the holiday falls in the middle of the week, some fireworks displays and celebrations may take place during the weekend for convenience, again, varying by region. Thanks WIkepedia for the info and all of you have a safe and happy 4th! God Bless the USA!

Stampin’ Up! Retiring Sale Going On Now

Screen Shot 2015-04-21 at 5.56.52 AM

The annual Stampin’ Up! retirement sale is going on now through June 2!  Many of your favorite retiring items are on sale at prices up to 50% off.  Retiring accessories are available only while supplies last, so shop early.

Artisan Embellishment Kit No Longer Available

The good news: you loved the Artisan Embellishment Kit (item 137909) from the Occasions Catalog!  In fact, you loved it so much that Stampin’ Up! sold through their initial inventory much faster than they had planned.

The bad news:  Stampin’ Up!’s supplier has been unable to satisfactorily re-create all the components of the kit (namely the rosette trim), so their supply of Artisan Embellishment Kits will not be replenished before the catalog sales period ends.

If you currently have the Artisan Embellishment Kit on backorder, your money will automatically be refunded during the first week in May.

Stampin’ Up! is so sorry for this disappointing news.

Stampin’ Up! Retiring List Announced!

Stampin’ Up! Retiring List Announced

Stampin' Up! Retiring List

The retired list  has been posted! The retiring stamps and accessories from the 2014-2015 catalog  will be available while supplies last until June 2; however, due to high demand for retiring stamps, we’ll keep producing retiring stamps through May 26 (not accessories-accessories are only while supplies last). Remember: some of these products have discounts up to 50 percent off retail, so don’t miss out! Use this opportunity to  order your favorite products before they’re gone for good.

If someone tells you

Excel file HERE. It will automatically download to your computer. Open it. Click on page # at top and sort in ascending order to get the page # in your catalog. I cross out what is leaving and look to see if there is something I just have to have.  For many of you, especially if you new to stamping and are trying to add to your tools, there are great buys on embossing folders, dies for the bigs hot and punches galore.

These are on a get-it-while-you-can basis. When they’re gone, they’re gone.

I would suspect that in color products will go first, so if you’re a fan of those, make sure to get hold of reinkers while you can.

After that, well, it’s a no holds barred race to get everything while you can!

So very best of luck to everyone who’s been waiting for this list and hoping their wish-list products are on it.

I’m sad to say goodbye to so many things, but the more that leave, well, the more space has been created in the new catalog which will be live in 6 weeks time on June 2nd!
